Our Appointment Today & Week 14 Update

So, I'm going ahead and give you the scoop on our appointment today and post the Week 14 info as we start week fourteen tomorrow. The doctor's appointment went well. All of the blood work and ultrasound shots to see if the baby was progressing normally came back perfectly. Our Peanut rocks! We got to hear the heart beat for the first time and that was pretty rockin' too! Our next appointment is on July 17th and we'll get an ultrasound and check up and MOST IMPORTANTLY, we'll determine the baby's gender! So, though he/she may still be a peanut, we may ditch Bernie as a nickname (assuming we have names picked by then, I think you all might get to vote on boy names as we just can't settle on one).
In other exciting baby news, I came out of the "pregnancy closet" today and told my boss about Bernie. All went well and I am so happy to no longer worry about whether or not my belly is sticking out a little bit making me LOOK pregnant. I AM PREGNANT, by gosh! That said, all you Nashvillians who have been amazing support and secret keepers, tell whoever you want... And enjoy!

Now, for your stimulating Week 14 information....

WHAT HAPPENS AT WEEK 14:
This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.

In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

So, apparently at week 14, the baby is now the size of a lemon.... What exciting fruit will the baby become next, stay tuned to find out!!!!

This is all great news! We are so excited, and are loving keeping up with "Bernie." We are also really glad we are not part of the "Nashvillians," who have not been able to tell (though we sure would like to be closer to all 3 of you), because we are telling EVERYBODY!
